White Deer 4th and 5th grade students created cards for local veterans during Health Class this month. The cards will be handed to local veterans along with meals at Geisinger Medical Center on November 11th. Geisinger serves nearly 4000 free meals to veterans in communities across Central and Northeast PA in November. Cards made by local students, thanking our veterans for their service are included with every single meal given. Our student’s participation in this program helps to ensure each veteran gets an individual note of thanks and serves as an activity to support teaching our youth about the value of service to our country. Tina McDowell is the Director of Volunteer Services at Geisinger and has coordinated this for our students.

Congratulations to the White Deer PAWS-itive Panthers for the month of October!

5th grade guest speaker, Carlos Perez was born a full Mopan Maya and is from Belize. He talked about the early cities/architecture; foods; social structure; and how the Mayan children lived. He even taught the students a few words in his native tongue. Fifth graders are studying ancient Maya, Inca, and Aztec culture in their current CKLA (Core Knowledge Language Arts) unit.
