Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we enter the winter season, we want to ensure that students can continue learning even when inclement weather requires us to close our school buildings. In these situations, the Milton Area School District will implement a Flexible Instruction Day (FID), which is a remote/virtual learning day that allows students to continue their schoolwork from home. Below you will find information about what you and your child can expect should a FID be announced.
Elementary (Grades K–5) FID Expectations
For elementary students, teachers will prepare a take-home packet that includes both reading and math assignments, along with one related arts activity based on the class’s scheduled cycle day. The total amount of work will not exceed one hour and will be age appropriate. Teachers will be available to students and families from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. through District email or Rooms for any questions or assignment support, with a scheduled lunch break from 12:00–12:30 p.m.
Secondary (Grades 6–12) FID Expectations
For middle and high school students, each teacher will post a course assignment by 9:00 a.m. High school assignments will be available in Canvas, and middle school assignments will be posted in Rooms, including links to materials and submission locations. Related arts teachers at the middle school will post assignments according to the cycle day. All student work will be due by 3:00 p.m. Teachers will be available to students and families from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. through District email or Rooms for any questions or assignment support, with a scheduled lunch break from 12:00–12:30 p.m.
When a FID will be used, we will communicate through the same methods as normal, including Sapphire messaging and our normal TV and radio stations. Thank you for your cooperation and support as we work to provide continuous, meaningful learning opportunities for our students. If you have any questions regarding FID procedures, please contact your child’s school office.
