Middle School cleared for occupancy, great progress made
Milton, PA – September 6th, 2018
Mountain Research Environmental Laboratory provided satisfactory air quality results about the Milton Area Middle School Thursday afternoon, releasing additional classrooms for occupancy. Only one room in the middle school remains affected with mold. That room will remain closed until it passes occupancy tests. Our Middle School staff are eager for the new school year to start. They are creating inviting learning spaces in anticipation for the students return Monday morning, September 10, 2018.
Throughout the district, there are only a few classrooms still receiving mitigation. Those rooms have been isolated from all students and teachers and they are on separate HVAC systems, to prevent further contamination. Montandon Elementary has one space affected, White Deer Elementary has one classroom closed and a multi-purpose area off-limits for cleaning. Baugher Elementary has three rooms isolated. The High School has all classrooms open for students and teachers, with the exception of the high school auditorium.
Due to the delayed opening of the Middle School, 6th, 7th & 8th grade students and their parents will be able to attend special Open Houses on Monday. A Monday morning Open House is scheduled from 8:00 am – 9:30 am and an additional afternoon Open House is scheduled from 3:30 pm – 5:00 pm to accommodate parents who wish to attend Open House.
Representatives from NRG, SERVPRO and Mountain Research will be available to answer any questions from parents about the mold mitigation and humidity issues the district has been facing over the past four weeks.
The district has been fielding questions from parents about the school calendar. Please know that while the district does not anticipate the school year being extended, we are working with the Pennsylvania Department of Education related to the delayed start of the Middle School. Any changes to the calendar year will be reported immediately to parents.
Parents and community members with questions about the humidity/mold remediation are encouraged to call Superintendent Dr. Cathy Keegan at 570-742-7614 ext. 2006.
